Rights Project

What is your right? The freedome of an individual to come together with other individuals.
Why does your right exist? This right exists so that individuals with common interests can come together and discuss them. Also this right existis so that people with opposing views can PEACEFULLY get together and discuss why they disagree.
Describe what it means to exercise your right. If I were exersise my right to the right of assembly you might see me doing things we take forgranted like going to a concert, a sporting event, a rally or even a party.
What limitations exist on your right? The assembly has to be peacful, a common misconseption is that we have the right to assemble and it doesn't matter whether the assembly is peacful or not this is untrue. ALthough, as long as the assembly you are participating in does not cause a disturbance of the community or the peace you and your party should be able to assembly without any problems from athorities.
Why do those limitations exist? Limitations on this right exist so the athourities have the right to interviene if the assembly is causing a disturbance, becoming violent or threatening to others, or is violent or threatening for those involved.
If you had to give up this right, what would you want in return? I value this right greatly and if this right were to be taken from me it would have to be taken with force because I would not freely give this right up for something in return. By force I mean that if this right would be taken from me it would have to be taken with threats or heavy penalty. I hope that I am never put into this situation!

middle east "mini" project!!! =)

How did your country get involved in the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East? MY country got involved by trying to help with the unresolved conflicts that these countries have had for years.
What is the history of your country's involvement in that conflict, from when it entered until now? (This will likely be a long answer...) My country has been trying to help resolve the conflict although my country would also like "ownership" of the holyland.
Who are your enemies in the Middle East? Why? My enemy is Israle becasue we want a part of the holyland and they refuse to give up what is theres
Who are your friends in the Middle East? Why? We get along with everyone else
What does your country want out of the Arab-Israeli conflict? My country wants the end of the conflict and the holyland
What is it prepared to give up to get what it wants? A little bit of land but not much
What will it not give up to get what it wants? Anything else.

Reflection post (FINALLY!!)

What did you learn? This project taught me alot about the roles women have had in the past and how far we have come in the sense of equality between men and women, I still think we have a long way to go but we are getting there!
What was your research question? My research question was: How did Rosie the riviter effect women of the world war two era?
What was the answer to your research question? The answer to my research question was that the idea of rosie the riviter gave women alot of power that they did not have previously had. Her role in the social changes that took place during that era paved the way for the oppertunities that we take forgranted today.
Did your final product answer that question? My final product did answer that question because it presented my research in an easy to follow and not overwhelming way.
How? The scrapbook showed the progress women made by showing with pictures and text.
What did you do well on the project? ON this project i did well with staying on task and keepinng organized!
What could you have improved on the project? Just using my time at home better and recording it in progress posts the day i did the work.
What would you change about what you did on the project? I would not change anything i did on this project.
What would you change about the assignment itself? i would change the way the night was set up because i think peoples projects were too spread out.
What grade do you think you deserve on the project? Why? I think that i deserve a high A becasue i stayed ahead of the guidelines and my final project was well organized and neatly put together.

index card 10

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_home_front_during_World_War_II

  • The unemployment problem before world war 2 was resolved when wartime demands steped up the needs for production and created millions of jobs

  • Though many now had places to work the draft pulled many young men out of their jobs to serve their country

  • Some of the women who were working in the factories to help manufacture for the war were replaced by returning veteranes

  • However most women who wanted to continue working did so

  • Along with taking on Rosie the riveter like jobs during the war many women held traditionally female roles in the workforce such as waitressing

  • Nearly 1 million women also became "government girls" holding jobs in the federal government

  • The Government girls movement mostly took place in washington dc

  • During world war 2 women began to gain more respect as men realized that women could also work outside the home

  • Upon gaining the respect they deserved women fought for equal pay which made a huge impact on the workforce

  • Women then began to take over "male" jobs and gained huge confidance in themselves
  • Women staffed many jobs in community service roles such as the USO and American Red Cross while men were at war
  • The american troops coming home from war resulted in a baby boom

Index card 9

  • womens efforts on the homefront during world war 2 was central in the allies success
  • Also japanese made silk stockings were no longer avalible so stockings made of a synthetic material called nylon became popular
  • Women on the homefront had to ration things such as food, shoes and gas based on the size of their famlies they were given coupons for a certain amount and they were not allowed to buy more than the coupon alotted

-The government launched a propaganda campaign that premoted a fictional character of "Rosie the riviter"

-she was the ideal worker because she was loyal, efficient, patriotic and pretty

-The image that we know today as "Rosie the riviter" was drawn by Norman Rockwell

Index card 3

http://www.nps.gov/pwro/collection/website/rosie.htm
-At the beginning of world war 2 factories were reluctant to hire women
-Companies also did not think that there would be a labor shortage
-Women had always worked esecially in lower and middle class
-however there was an obvious division of labor between men and women because they were looked down upon in the working world
-durning the great depression people where against women working because there was a shortage of work to begin with

Progress Post 3

Today my goal was to complete the requirements for an "A" on this project. While working in class today I accomplished the requirements I was hoping to. My blog now includes 3 progress posts, the project prospectus, and three note cards. Next time i would like to accomplish at least three more notecards and find some pictures!

Index Card 3

http://history.sandiego.edu/gen/st/~cg3/pagefour.html
-When the war was over there was no longer a need for women to work in factories
-Going back to just taking care of the home and the family was not enough for some women anymore because they found working life more satisfying
-Wartime economy gave women freedoms they had never had before
-Although some women were not happy about the prospect of losing their jobs others saw it as a blessing
- To women losing their night jobs was a blessing becasue they could return to the home where they felt they belonged
-Durning this time women got the oppertunities to have new experiances as well as new freedoms
- Many women were reluctant to let these freedoms go

Index Card 2

http://history.sandiego.edu/gen/st/~cg3/pagethree.html
- In addition to fufilling the household duties expected of housewives during this time many women would also take night jobs
-Many of the resposibilities during war times were shared however housework was not one of them
- The average housewife durning this time averaged about five to six hours of sleep but they were never consecutive
-Many men felt that by letting their wives work at nights they were doing their share
-Most accounts of Rosie the riviter suggested that she asked for nothing and despite all of her struggles she accomplished all of her tasks
-Some women literally quit their jobs to better fufill their obligations to the family

Index Card 1

http://history.sandiego.edu/gen/st/~cg3/pageone.html
-All women who were not in charge of young childern were asked to seek employment
- The public was very resistant to the idea of working mothers
-Women who decided not to work did choose to help the war effort in other ways
-Another effort to conserve resources for the war was called rationing, this meant that a women could only purchase so much of something at one time
Things that were rationed were items such as: sugar and other cooking staples, as well as fabrics like silk, nylon, rayon, cotton and wool.
-The government encouraged victory gardens, these were small patches in their backyards used to grow things like lettus, beans and other produce that would normally be purchased at a grocery store
-Women during this time were still expected to keep the house and dress the same as they normally would as well as cook with limited resoruces

Project post

Today I was hoping to finish the project prospectus so that next class I can focus on starting the research. I accomplished my goal to finish the project and I feel like I have a really solid start on my research project. Next class I hope to get at least 3 sources posted on delicious. I feel that accomplishing this will be a solid start to the research

progress post

This is my first progress post Mr Nilsen. So far i have decided on a topic and started on the seven things assingment im having alittle trouble coming up with subtopics i can break the research down further into. If you have any ideas i'd love to hear them! thanks so much =)

Monday, February 9, 2009

Product prospectus

1.) How did Rosie the riviter effect women during the world war 2 era

2.)My final product will be a scrapbook that will show images and descriptions of the impact the idea of Rosie the riviter had on women of that time.

3.)I chose this form because I want to study the changes made by women while their husband is away at war and I think that using images will help with understanding

4.)When I complete the scrapbook there will be pictures as well as captions outlining the changes that women made on the homefront to adapt while their husbands were at war.

5.)The final scrapbook will demonstrate concept mastry because the project will illustrate with pictures, quotes and captions the changes these women underwent. The subtopics that I would like to divide the project into the jobs they took, the economic changes that were made made as far as the salaries they earned, the social changes made and how they viewed they were in society, how the new jobs changed their fashion choices and the impact they had on their family relationships.

6.)My "plan of attack" is to research the subtopics one at a time and as I finish them I will create the necessary pages and then move onto the next section.

7.) Next I will start by researching the first subtopic and creating the necessary pages and moving on from there.
